Red Light Product Recommendations
(Updated January 2025)
My Experiences with Red Light Products
Start here for background about why I’ve changed my mind about LEDs for fertility.
Over the 18 months, I've experimented with numerous red light devices. Unfortunately, some of these products stopped working after just a few uses, leading me on a quest to find truly reliable and effective solutions. Now, I only recommend PBM products that I have personally used and have experienced positive results with. Additionally, it's crucial to me that these products come from companies with responsive customer care and fair returns policies. Combined with additional training and research, this education has not only deepened my understanding but ensures that I bring well-informed information to my readers and to my clients. I am an affiliate for some of these companies, but please know that I only promote products that I genuinely trust and stand by. My commitment is to recommend only the best, ensuring that you can explore PBM therapies for fertility with confidence and support.
As part of my approach, I include personalized treatment plans demonstrating how to use your device optimally based on your unique circumstances and goals if you use my affiliate link. (Please note I cannot provide treatment plans for devices I’m unfamiliar with).
Choosing the Right PBM Device: What Matters Most for Fertility Optimization
When comparing consumer PBM devices, I focused on the key factors that truly impact results.
Wavelength is critical—devices should emit light in the therapeutic range of 630–1064 nm for optimal penetration and cellular response. Equally important is irradiance, (power density), which determines how much light energy reaches the skin. The more powerful the device the more photons are reaching those crucial deeper tissues. For fertility, the ability to deliver deep tissue penetration, especially in the 800+ nm range, is essential, which many consumer devices can’t achieve. Ultimately, choosing a device that balances effectiveness, and ease of use was my priority.
(Note that there are no consumer products officially approved for fertility support by the FDA).
This pad includes 450 LEDs that emit red and near-infrared light at 660nm and 850nm wavelengths with an irradiance (when against the skin) of 150 mW/cm².
With as high as 200mW/cm2 of irradiance, the Novaa lightpad ensures optimal light penetration and absorption, maximizing the therapy's effectiveness. Sized at approximately 16" x 8", it covers a significant area, perfect for targeting the reproductive organs and gut microbiome.
Photopuncture - Acupuncture with Red Light
Photopuncture, is a technique using a focused PBM torch and an incredible way to support your body after ovulation or embryo transfer. You may be aware of the limited human research for using PBM in pregnancy but by targeting specific acupuncture points with gentle red or near-infrared light, you can stimulate circulation, calm the nervous system, and promote uterine receptivity—all without needles! It’s a simple, non-invasive addition to your fertility toolkit that works beautifully alongside other treatments to encourage implantation and reduce stress. If you’ve never tried it, a PBM torch might just become your new favorite post-transfer/post-ovulation self-care ritual.
Purchase a torch with my affiliate link and I’ll send you a specific chart of photopuncture points to use at various points in your cycle to optimize results.
HOOGA TORCH (approx $140)
The Torch is Hooga’s most targeted and precision red light therapy device. Use with my photopuncture protocols. It features two rechargeable 2,500mAh lithium ion batteries with included charging cable so you can take your red light therapy with you on the go. The torch delivers over 120mW/cm2 of high-powered red, near-infrared, and blue light. If you’re having IVF, it’s a great idea to bring your torch with you for immediate use before and after your retrieval. Although it’s a minor ‘injury’ - a retrieval causes new inflammation in the pelvic area. Using your torch can shorten that inflammatory process.
I’m a big fan of the Diesel LightPath torch - it’s the Rolls Royce of red light torches with more features and more power. This torch has the highest irradiance of light at >200mw/cm2 at the skin’s surface - Hooga comes in at 120mW/cm2.
We have two of these at home that get frequent use.
Choosing the right PBM device is an investment in your health and fertility journey. Taking some time to do your research is important especially given the overwhelming number of new products vying for your attention. By focusing on the essentials—therapeutic wavelengths, effective irradiance, and a design that suits your needs—you’re giving your body a much needed boost of cellular energy. Whether you’re supporting implantation, soothing inflammation, or improving egg quality the right device can make all the difference. With so many options available, there’s never been a better time to explore how PBM can transform your fertility experience.
Why Are Some Brands Not Listed?
Unfortunately, some women have invested significant money in devices that, may have minimal impact on fertility or none at all. Often this happens because the device was purchased based on recommendations from a reproductive endocrinologist (R.E.) or acupuncturist who likely has no specialized training in red light therapy.
I wish this list of recommended products was a LOT longer. I would love to add more options so if you think I’ve missed out on a particular product that helped you please get in touch and I’ll review the specs. I want this blog to be a comprehensive resource for women around the world experiencing fertility challenges.
Some big-name brands didn’t make the cut due to low irradiance, inadequate wavelengths, or a lack of transparency about specifications like power density or number of LEDs. Without these essentials, a device won’t give you the therapeutic dose required for meaningful results. (One particular sales rep for a popular brand in this area was quite dismissive when asked to share their technical specs and referred to other similar consumer products as just ‘junk’ with colored lights…)This particular brand and a few others cite Ohshiro, the Danish data and others - but what they leave out is that these studies all included therapeutic lasers - not simply LEDs.
So before you hit the checkout button, look for critical features: therapeutic wavelengths (630–1064 nm), sufficient irradiance (at least 100 mW/cm²) for pads/skin contact lights and science-backed claims clearly detailed by the manufacturer. By taking the time to learn about PBM and the different options ensures the device you end up purchasing supports your fertility goals rather than becoming an expensive disappointment. And disappointment is already far too common when you’ve been TTCing for a while.
If you’re in the Austin Texas area, take the next step in your fertility journey and schedule your 2025 laser fertility treatments today. Appointments available starting mid January.
