Fertility After 40: How Red Light Laser Therapy Can Boost Your Chances of Conceiving
PBM is Revolutionizing Fertility Experiences of Women Over 40.
Last week a new study from the UK was published following 3 women in their 40s with unexplained fertility trying to conceive.
(Spoiler alert: the results are inspiring).
The Heart of the Study
In this small study, three women, aged 40 to 43, received PBM treatments over several weeks to months. The main target of the treatments were mitochondria (the powerhouse and processor of your cells), an improvement in blood flow, and an attempt to create the optimal environment to get that BFP.
All three women went on to deliver healthy, full-term babies. One of them even conceived naturally after multiple failed IVF cycles—a moment of hope for anyone who feels like they’ve tried it all.
The secret sauce of PBM lies in its ability to:
Revitalize your cells. PBM helps mitochondria create more ATP (aka energy), which is critical for egg quality and embryo development.
Enhance blood flow. By increasing angiogenesis (the growth of new blood vessels), PBM ensures better oxygen and nutrient delivery to your reproductive system.
Reduce inflammation. A healthier, less inflamed environment makes it easier for an embryo to implant and thrive.
Why Mitochondria Matter So Much
Here’s a fun fact: Your egg cells have more mitochondria than any other cells in your body. And as we age, those mitochondria can start to slow down. PBM steps in giving them the energy boost they need to keep things running smoothly. This is especially important for women over 40, when egg quality often becomes the biggest hurdle. By improving mitochondrial function, PBM helps eggs maintain their integrity, increasing the chances of creating a healthy embryo.
An Individualised Approach
The study also used a tailored approach, adjusting treatment protocols based on individual needs such as skin type and BMI.
Results
Participant 1: After failed IVF cycles and recurrent pregnancy loss, she underwent PBM alongside IVF and welcomed a healthy baby.
Participant 2: With previous IVF failures, PBM helped her achieve a successful implantation on her next attempt, resulting in a healthy birth.
Participant 3: After multiple failed IVF cycles and aneuploid embryos, she conceived naturally following PBM and delivered a healthy baby.
These results are more than numbers—they’re a reminder that there’s always hope, even when the journey feels overwhelming - and we ALL have those days when you question everything.
Encouraging Agreement in Research
Although this is a small study the results were similar to Oumaru (2013) for women with an average age of 38 who’d had several failed IVFs. Of 337 women 32% became pregnant. The authors suggest that PBM is even more effective as Chinese herbal medicine or melatonin.
What This Means for You
If you’ve been feeling like time isn’t on your side, PBM could be a powerful tool in your fertility toolbox. It’s safe, non-invasive, and works on the cellular level to support the very foundation of reproductive health.
For women over 40, this is more than just a therapy—it’s a chance to explore something that aligns with your body’s natural processes. Whether you’re looking to boost your IVF success rates or hoping for a natural conception, PBM might be the gentle nudge your body needs.
While more research is always welcome and this was a very small study without a control group, the results of this study are undeniably hopeful. Laser PBM offers a unique opportunity to enhance fertility outcomes for women in their 40s, providing a pathway to healthier eggs, better implantation, and even natural conception.
